Srinagar was alive with energy on Sunday as the second edition of the Kashmir Marathon 2025 drew over 1,500 runners to the heart of the city. This significant event, a celebration of endurance and national unity, commenced from the vibrant Polo View market. Participants from 27 Indian states and 11 international countries, including Germany, Denmark, USA, Ethiopia, Kenya, Japan, and Sri Lanka, laced up their running shoes for a memorable day.

The Department of Tourism, Kashmir, in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, orchestrated a seamless event that highlighted the region’s growing appeal for sporting endeavors. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, a vocal supporter of the initiative, not only flagged off the race but also completed the half-marathon himself, sharing his renewed personal best and praising all participants on X.

Celebrities and local supporters lined the picturesque Boulevard Road alongside senior officials, adding to the festive atmosphere. Bollywood star Suniel Shetty, present at the event, lauded the exceptional spirit and turnout. He remarked on the participants running “for Kashmir, for India,” viewing the marathon as a powerful symbol of unity, peace, and the importance of fitness. Shetty, who had previously explored the scenic beauty of Dal Lake, expressed his delight at the resurgence of the Valley’s charm and its potential as a major sporting hub. He anticipates even larger events in the future, noting plans for another major event in February.

The marathon featured both full (42 km) and half (21 km) marathon categories, offering a substantial prize pool of Rs. 25 lakh. Runners were treated to unparalleled views along the Dal Lake and the Zabarwan Range, cementing the Kashmir Marathon’s reputation as one of India’s most visually stunning races.
