The political storm brewing over border security in West Bengal intensified after the Calcutta High Court mandated the Mamata government to transfer land to BSF. TMC firebrand Kunal Ghosh hit back, claiming the handover was completed long ago and accusing opponents of playing dirty politics.

In a media interaction, Ghosh was categorical: ‘No comments on the high court order, but the land in question has already been handed over by the state. BSF is present everywhere in those zones, with jurisdiction extending 50 km from the border. There’s zero evidence to the contrary.’

He challenged the infiltration narrative head-on. ‘With BSF in control, how do infiltrators slip through? This falls squarely on BSF, not state police.’ Labeling the force’s stance as confusing, he reiterated, ‘State gave the land already. This is pure politicking, harmful to national interest.’

Ghosh didn’t spare the BJP during discussions on Amit Shah’s Bengal tour. ‘BJP bigwigs descend during elections, promise the moon, then disappear. PM Modi flies in, delivers scripted speeches via teleprompter, and jets off—zero lasting effect on ground realities.’

Dismissing Sandeshkhali (SIR) controversies as misinformation campaigns, he said, ‘The public sees through these tactics. They recognize who is driving Bengal’s progress, and BJP won’t earn their faith.’

On the RG Kar case parents’ allegations of election offers from TMC, Ghosh refuted firmly: ‘No contact from our side. Others are forcing false statements from them.’

This exchange underscores deepening divides on security and governance in Bengal, where court interventions are fueling partisan slugfests between ruling TMC and opposition BJP.
