Kheri village in the Bantalab area of Jammu has suffered extensive damage due to landslides triggered by intense monsoon rains. Numerous houses have been damaged or destroyed, leaving residents displaced and facing dire circumstances. The persistent downpours have caused significant soil erosion, rendering homes unsafe and forcing villagers to seek refuge in makeshift shelters. Residents, many of whom invested their life savings into their homes, are now struggling to cope with the destruction of their properties and the lack of immediate assistance.

Residents recount the suddenness of the landslides and the loss of their belongings. They describe the urgent need for safe housing and government support to rebuild their lives. One resident, Javed, expressed the devastation of losing his home, built with years of hard work, and the lack of resources for even basic necessities. Rafia described the sudden landslide at 3 a.m. that destroyed her household items. Rubina shared the damage to her brothers’ houses, highlighting the vulnerability of families with young children. Another resident lamented the complete collapse of their home, emphasizing the urgent need for a safe living space. Sumit Dhar of Talab Tillo in Jammu has mobilized support through social media, providing essential relief to affected families.
