The sacred banks of the Ganges at Farrukhabad’s Panchal Ghat pulsed with spiritual energy on Vasant Panchami, a highlight of the Magh Mela. Juna Akhara’s Naga sadhus, spearheaded by revered Mahant Satya Giri Maharaj, stole the show with their royal snan yatra. Scattering abeer-gulal in joyous celebration, they paraded through crowds en route to the sixth stair for the ceremonial bath.
Fair authorities rolled out the red carpet, ensuring a fitting welcome. The procession dazzled with horses at the forefront, trailed by ornate palanquins of gods and spiritual leaders. Sadhus enthralled onlookers with daring stunts that blended athleticism and devotion, leaving the faithful spellbound.
Simultaneously, Vaishnav saints, led by President Mohan Das Maharaj, initiated a vibrant shobha yatra from Shri Panch Ram Anandi Nirbhoyi Akhara. Flag-bearing children led the way, followed by rhythmic dhols and weapon-wielding performers who executed flawless routines with lathis, bhallas, talwars, and barachis. Petal showers from enthusiastic crowds marked every turn, with the group honored by mela officers near the market and offices.
Saints from multiple sampradayas joined in, all converging for Ganga immersion and nishaan puja. The day concluded at Juna Akhara with heartfelt aartis, feasts, and prasad. This year’s mela, brimming with ascetics, stands as a testament to enduring traditions of bhakti and sanskriti.
