Assam Rifles has dealt a severe blow to drug traffickers in Mizoram, executing three coordinated raids in the last four days that netted foreign currency, contraband tobacco, cigarettes, and over 223 grams of high-grade heroin. Four arrests have been made, signaling a robust crackdown on narcotics smuggling along the Indo-Myanmar border.
Details emerged from an official update on Wednesday. In the initial raid on January 17 at Zotlang in Champhai district, security forces flagged down a suspicious vehicle. A search revealed 174 grams of heroin No. 4, street value pegged at 1.46 crore rupees. The two men inside were detained, and everything was forwarded to local police.
On January 19, another team in Jote, Champhai, stopped a Honda scooter. The rider, K. Thangjalala, yielded 49.6 grams of the same potent drug worth 39 lakh rupees during frisking. He was immediately apprehended and remanded to excise authorities with the scooter and contraband.
The most recent action in Tuipang, Siaha district, on Tuesday targeted currency smuggling. One individual was caught with Myanmar Kyat equivalent to 1.75 crore rupees, plus tobacco (50,000 rupees) and foreign cigarettes (1.30 lakh rupees). Items and suspect went to Tuipang station.
This blitz reflects heightened vigilance amid rising drug threats from neighboring Myanmar. Assam Rifles’ proactive stance is fortifying border security and aiding national efforts against substance abuse.
