A significant security breach has been reported at the Red Fort in Delhi, prior to the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on August 15th. Following the incident, seven police personnel, including constables and head constables, have been suspended. Delhi Police conducts daily drills to prepare for the August 15th event.

During a recent exercise on Saturday, a Special Cell team entered the Red Fort complex with a dummy bomb, disguised in civilian clothes. The police officers on duty failed to detect the simulated threat, leading to their suspension.

This breach highlights deficiencies in the existing security protocols. The Deputy Commissioner, taking the matter seriously, took immediate action and suspended the seven police personnel on duty.

According to Deputy Commissioner Raja Banthia, the mock drill was conducted to assess the security arrangements before August 15th. The ease with which the team entered the fort raises serious questions about the security measures in place. This is especially concerning because the Prime Minister addresses the nation from the Red Fort every year, with a large number of dignitaries and citizens present.

The incident has caused a state of alert among the police and security agencies. The Deputy Commissioner has instructed the concerned officials to immediately review the security arrangements and create a new plan. Additionally, orders have been issued to reinforce the security perimeter, re-deploy personnel, and utilize modern technical resources.

The Red Fort is a frequent target for terrorists and anti-social elements. During national events like Independence Day, the entire capital city is on high alert, as any lapse could pose a serious threat to national security. Alongside the suspensions, a departmental inquiry has been initiated against the police personnel.

Furthermore, the Delhi Police have apprehended five Bangladeshi citizens who attempted to forcibly enter the Red Fort complex. These individuals are illegal immigrants, aged approximately 20-25, and employed as laborers in Delhi. Some Bangladeshi documents were recovered from them. They are currently being questioned.
