A recent report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) reveals that Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, is the poorest among the 31 chief ministers in India. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader possesses the lowest assets, amounting to a mere 15.40 lakh rupees. This report is based on information from affidavits submitted by chief ministers during recent assembly elections or by-elections. The matter has ignited political discussion in Bengal.

Mamata Banerjee has retained the title of ‘India’s poorest Chief Minister.’ In contrast, Andhra Pradesh’s N Chandrababu Naidu is the ‘richest Chief Minister’ in the country. The TDP supremo’s total assets exceed 931 crore rupees.
