In a bid to boost voter rolls, Chennai’s election authorities are rolling out special registration camps at 4,097 polling stations across 16 assembly segments this Sunday. The focus is on adding new voters and helping those deleted during recent revisions to get back on the list.

This effort ties into the ongoing Special Intensive Revision started last November. The draft rolls showed a staggering 1.5 million deletions in the district. Key reasons include 150,000 deaths, 160,000 untraceable voters, and shifts in residence.

Election officials note that numerous affected individuals are still eligible to vote. Incomplete checks or moves to new areas led to their removal. ‘These camps are designed for newcomers and returnees to update details seamlessly,’ an official explained.

Spanning every polling booth in the constituencies, the camps represent the last chance before the January 31 cutoff. Authorities advise bringing proof of identity and residence. Participation is vital to guarantee every eligible voice counts in upcoming polls, ensuring transparency and equity.
