Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to initiate a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the case of Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam, who went missing in Shillong, Meghalaya. Raja was later discovered deceased, while Sonam remains unaccounted for.
Chief Minister Yadav expressed his support on social media, stating, “Madhya Pradesh stands with Sonam Raghuvanshi’s family during this challenging time. I have discussed the matter with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya. Senior police officials from Madhya Pradesh are in close contact with Meghalaya authorities. I have requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to order a CBI inquiry to ensure every possible effort is made for Sonam Raghuvanshi’s safe return.”
The family of Raja Raghuvanshi, whose remains were found in a gorge near Cherrapunji, had previously written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting a CBI investigation.
The couple was last seen on May 23 during their honeymoon in the northeastern state. Raja’s remains were recovered from a gorge near Cherrapunji on June 2. Sonam is still missing, and the search continues. The family’s last conversation with the couple was on the afternoon of May 23, and their phones were switched off that evening.
