The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has declared a statewide bandh in Bihar for September 4th, in protest against the opposition’s use of abusive language targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a joint event in Bihar. Dilip Jaiswal, the BJP’s Bihar state president, announced that the five-hour bandh will take place from 7 am to 12 noon. Essential services, including emergency facilities and rail operations, will be exempt from the shutdown. The BJP Mahila Morcha will lead the demonstrations. The bandh is a response to objectionable comments made by Congress workers last week in Darbhanga during the Voter Adhikar Yatra. Janata Dal (United) leader Umesh Kushwaha condemned the remarks, stating that they were morally and politically wrong. He further criticized the Mahagathbandhan leaders for failing to apologize, calling it a sign of arrogance. Kushwaha emphasized the insult to women and the need for retaliation, leading to the NDA’s call for the bandh and protests led by the women’s wing. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi indirectly criticized the INDIA bloc leaders, referring to them as ‘namdaars’ who are unable to understand the struggles of the poor. He highlighted the alleged derogatory remarks made during the Voter Adhikar Yatra, stating that these leaders, born into privilege, cannot comprehend the suffering of others, as power is seen as an inheritance for them.
