India’s defense production reached a record high in the fiscal year 2024-25, with the figure reaching 150,590 crore rupees. This represents an increase of approximately 18% compared to the previous year and a substantial 90% increase compared to 2019-20. This achievement was confirmed by the Defense Minister. The Defense Minister acknowledged the hard work of DPSUs, public sector companies, and private industries in achieving this milestone. He emphasized that this is a clear indication that the country’s defense industrial framework is consistently strengthening. The Minister praised the ‘collective efforts’ and called it a ‘historic achievement,’ highlighting that the increasing progress in defense production is a clear indicator of India’s strengthening defense industrial base. Public sector and DPSUs contributed 77% to this. The private sector accounted for 23%, an increase from 21% the previous year. The emphasis on policy reforms, ease of doing business, and indigenization has fueled this growth. This year, the production of DPSUs increased by 16% and the private sector by 28%. Defense exports also reached an all-time high of 23,622 crore rupees, an increase of 2,539 crore rupees from last year. The government aims to reduce import dependence and establish a defense industry that not only meets India’s needs but also makes its mark globally. In the fiscal year 2024-25, defense production reached its highest level with 1,50,590 crore rupees. This shows an 18% increase compared to the previous fiscal year 2023-24 of 1.27 lakh crore rupees. In 2019-20, this figure was 79,071 crore rupees, reflecting a significant 90% increase in 5 years.
