Ahmedabad’s law enforcement struck a decisive blow to an interstate baby trafficking syndicate on Tuesday, rescuing a newborn and nabbing three perpetrators en route to the airport. The coordinated effort between Gujarat ATS and DCB Crime Branch highlights the growing threat of organized child smuggling networks.

Intelligence shared by ATS on January 28 prompted swift action. A crack team led by PSI J.C. Desai, comprising experienced officers like AHC Kanubhai, APC Velaji, APC Suresh, and WPC Kashmiraben, laid an ambush near Kotarpur Pumping Station.

They flagged down the white Maruti Ertiga from Himmatnagar. Inside, concealed among the suspects, was the tiny victim. Vandana Ben Panchal, Roshan Agrawal (aka Sajjan), and Sumit Yadav were arrested on the spot. Driver Maulik Dave faces scrutiny as investigations deepen.

During questioning, the trio confessed to buying the infant for 3.6 lakhs from one Munnu and intending to sell it in Hyderabad via agent Nagaraj. The racket’s tentacles reach across Gujarat, Telangana, and Uttar Pradesh, prompting fears of a vast underworld operation.

Authorities confiscated cash amounting to over Rs 10,000, four smartphones valued at Rs 55,000, and the crime vehicle. Legal action invokes BNS sections 143(4), 137(2), 61(2)(A), alongside JJ Act provisions 81 and 87.

The baby, now safe, underwent immediate medical checks under child health officials. Police vow to unravel the full network, targeting absconding brokers.

Such interventions not only save innocent lives but also expose the dark underbelly of trafficking. As probes continue, Ahmedabad reaffirms its zero-tolerance stance against crimes preying on the vulnerable.
