The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is developing a nearly 200-km-long high-speed access control expressway to connect Ayodhya and Varanasi, significantly reducing travel time between the two cities. The project aims to streamline travel and enhance connectivity. The tender process for the Detailed Project Report (DPR) has already commenced.

Upon completion of this project, the journey from Ayodhya to Kashi is expected to take only two hours. The expressway will also connect to the Purvanchal Expressway, further improving connectivity from Ayodhya to Delhi.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is actively involved in several infrastructure projects within Ayodhya, including the 84 Kosi Parikrama Marg, Ram-Janaki Marg (Ayodhya to Janakpur), Ayodhya-Sultanpur and Ayodhya-Jagdishpur Marg, and the Ram Van Gaman Marg. In addition, overbridges and underpasses are being constructed on the Lucknow Highway to improve passenger convenience. The Ayodhya bypass has also undergone beautification, with an investment of Rs 55 crore.

To alleviate increasing city traffic, the ring road project is being expedited. Furthermore, the demarcation process is underway for the first phase of the Ayodhya-Prayagraj Greenfield Access Control 6-lane highway, extending up to Pratapgarh. These projects are set to establish Ayodhya as a key road connectivity hub in North India, boosting religious tourism and fostering trade and industry.
