The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to conduct significant military exercises across India’s northeastern region, a strategically vital area bordering China, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Bangladesh. This initiative, signaled by the issuance of Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), underscores a heightened state of operational readiness. These exercises are scheduled across multiple dates from November through January, with initial NOTAMs active on November 6 and 20, followed by December 4 and 18. Further drills are planned for January 1 and 15, ensuring continuous training and readiness.

The northeastern frontier is a critical zone for India, sharing extensive borders with several neighboring countries. The upcoming IAF exercises will involve comprehensive combat training, coordinated flight operations, and logistical maneuvers from various forward air bases. The primary objective is to bolster air dominance and enhance operational synergy within this sensitive border region. The NOTAMs, which temporarily restrict civilian air traffic in designated airspaces, are a standard procedure to ensure the safety of non-military flights during periods of intense military activity, preventing potential mid-air collisions and ensuring operational freedom for air assets.

These drills are part of a broader effort to reinforce India’s defense posture. While not directly linked to the recently launched ‘Exercise Trishul’ along the Pakistan border, the Northeast exercises reflect a nationwide focus on preparedness and joint military capability development.
