    On Republic Day eve, India celebrated excellence with the announcement of 131 Padma Award recipients for 2026, approved by President Droupadi Murmu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X to laud the winners, emphasizing how their efforts embody the nation’s spirit.

    ‘Warmest congratulations to all Padma Awardees for their stellar contributions to India. Their unwavering dedication, skill, and service across fields uplift our society. This recognition showcases a legacy of commitment that will motivate future generations,’ PM Modi shared.

    Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State, also congratulated the luminaries on X, saluting their role in enhancing India’s global stature through diverse contributions.

    Breaking down the awards: 5 Padma Vibhushan went to KT Thomas, N Rajam, P Narayanan, and posthumously to Dharmendra Singh Deol and VS Achyutanandan. The 13 Padma Bhushan awards honor Alka Yagnik, Mammootty, Vijay Amritraj, Uday Kotak, and others including late figures like Piyush Pandey, Shibu Soren, and VK Malhotra, alongside Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Kallipatti Ramasamy Palaniswami, Dr. Nori Dattatreyaudu, SKM Mailanandan, Shatavadhani R Ganesh, and Vellappally Natesan.

    Notably, 19 women recipients, 6 from overseas categories, and 16 posthumous honors highlight the inclusive nature of these civilian accolades. With 113 Padma Shris rounding out the list, the awards underscore India’s rich tapestry of talent and service.

    As fireworks light up the sky for Republic Day, these honors remind us of the quiet heroes shaping India’s future.
