Parliament’s Winter Session enters its second day with expectations of continued disruptions. The Lok Sabha experienced significant uproar on the inaugural day, primarily driven by opposition demands to discuss the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in various states. These concerns led to multiple adjournments, ultimately halting proceedings for the entire first day.

As the session progresses, the second day is anticipated to be dominated by debates and potential clashes over critical issues including escalating pollution levels in Delhi, the ongoing SIR voter list controversy, and allegations of ‘vote chori’ (vote theft). These topics are poised to ignite fresh political battles within the lower house.

In contrast, the Rajya Sabha marked a significant moment on its opening day with the Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar, presiding as Chairman. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended a warm welcome to the Chairman and acknowledged his extensive experience and leadership. Leader of the Opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge, also offered congratulations and pledged the Congress party’s cooperation, while emphasizing the importance of equitable treatment for all parliamentary factions.
