Following the tragic Air India aircraft crash in Ahmedabad, which resulted in over 240 fatalities, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture has initiated an investigation. The committee has summoned top aviation officials and Boeing executives to address concerns regarding safety protocols, regulatory compliance, and operational practices. Led by Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Jha, the panel seeks detailed explanations from Civil Aviation Secretary Samir Kumar Sinha and Boeing representatives regarding the cause of the crash and the current state of aviation safety in India. Air India and aviation regulators are also required to clarify their adherence to international safety standards. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has recovered the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder (black boxes) for analysis, with assistance from U.S. agencies. Preliminary findings are expected within weeks, while a comprehensive report will take several months. In addition, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a thorough safety audit of Air India, with 26 of the 33 Boeing Dreamliners already assessed. Remaining audits will focus on airworthiness and maintenance standards. The parliamentary panel is also expected to examine pilot working hours, fleet operations, and aircraft maintenance schedules. This investigation emphasizes the need for accountability at all levels and is likely to influence future air safety regulations.
