The untimely death of a medical entrance exam student in a Patna girls’ hostel has prompted Bihar’s administration to enforce stringent safety protocols. With a CBI investigation recommended, the state has issued a detailed advisory to safeguard female residents in hostels and lodges.

Police directives sent to all district SPs underline the urgency: 24/7 female wardens, police-vetted staff, and extensive CCTV coverage with 30-day archival storage. These apply universally to protect young women pursuing education away from home.

Home Minister Samrat Chaudhary, also Deputy CM, highlighted women’s empowerment as a cornerstone of development. He noted ongoing government efforts to ensure equal opportunities and secure living spaces.

Mandatory registrations will catalog every hostel at police stations, handled by dedicated women’s cells. Facilities must maintain hygiene, bright lighting, fortified entries, and grilles on windows. Biometrics will monitor evening check-ins.

Stricter visitor protocols ban unrelated males from dorm areas and require detailed registries. Emergency info boards will link residents to rapid response teams including 112 services and Abhaya units.

Joint patrols and audits promise proactive monitoring, with immediate crackdowns on threats. This robust framework follows the shocking hostel incident, aiming to prevent recurrences and foster a safer ecosystem for Bihar’s ambitious female students.
