Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to meet former U.S. President Donald Trump during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session in New York City next month. The UNGA session, a significant global gathering, is scheduled to commence on September 9, with heads of state and government convening from September 23 to 29. The potential meeting between Modi and Trump is primarily aimed at addressing the ongoing trade tensions between India and the United States. Escalating trade disputes have strained relations, with the Trump administration imposing tariffs on Indian goods. Trade talks between the two nations recently collapsed, and Trump has criticized India for high tariffs and purchasing Russian oil. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent mentioned that agreements with India were still pending, indicating challenges in negotiations.
