During a visit to Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a commemorative coin to honor Rajendra Chola I on his birth anniversary. The unveiling fulfilled a request by R. Komagan, Chairman of the Gangaikondacholapuram Development Council Trust. Modi also participated in a roadshow in Tiruchirappalli.

Addressing the public in Tiruchirappalli, PM Modi emphasized the historical significance of the Chola Empire, describing it as a golden era of India and a proponent of democratic traditions. He highlighted that the Chola Empire had a democratic system of elections centuries before the Magna Carta. The Prime Minister also noted the diplomatic and trade relations of the Chola kings with regions like Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Southeast Asia. Modi mentioned his recent return from the Maldives and the significance of the event.

Modi also spoke about bringing Gangajal from Kashi, his constituency, and its connection with the Chola kings’ work. He added that it gives new energy to the ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative. The Prime Minister also expressed his reverence for the land of Rajaraja and the spiritual environment, connecting it with his role as an MP from Kashi.
