Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent comments regarding former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru have ignited a political debate. During a public address in Assam, PM Modi criticized Nehru, asserting that the wounds inflicted on the people of Assam during the 1962 Sino-Indian War remain unhealed. In response to these remarks, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera took to social media to counter the claims. Khera shared a two-page post on X, featuring Nehru’s address to the nation on November 19, 1962. This address, according to Khera, demonstrates Nehru’s solidarity with Assam and the entire Northeast region. Khera suggested that the Prime Minister’s Office should review the speech before making further statements, questioning whether the Prime Minister was attempting to mislead the nation.

During the Assam event in the Darrang district, where projects worth Rs 6300 crore were inaugurated, PM Modi praised the work of the Assam BJP government, highlighting the progress being made. He stated that the current administration is rectifying the mistakes of the Congress government, including addressing illegal land claims. He claimed that during the Congress’s tenure, farmers’ lands and places of worship were encroached upon, and the BJP government has initiated action on these issues.

Furthermore, PM Modi stated that the BJP government has dealt firmly with infiltrators, reclaiming lakhs of acres of land in Assam. He emphasized the BJP’s commitment to protecting the country from infiltrators, stating that the government is effectively executing this task. He also challenged leaders who defend infiltrators, urging them to reveal their efforts in comparison to the government’s initiatives to remove infiltrators. He warned that those who provide shelter to infiltrators will face consequences and that the nation will not forgive them.
