The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is slated to move from the historic South Block to the newly constructed Executive Enclave next month, as per government sources. This move represents a significant change under the Central Vista project. The Executive Enclave, situated a short distance from the existing complex, will house high-level government departments, including the PMO, the Cabinet Secretariat, the National Security Council Secretariat, and a state-of-the-art conference facility. Notably, the new PMO will be closer to the Prime Minister’s residence. Officials cited limited space and a lack of modern infrastructure in the old buildings, originally built during British rule, as the primary reasons for the relocation. This shift is designed to reflect India’s status as an emerging global power, necessitating modern facilities to meet its needs. Earlier this month, the Prime Minister inaugurated Kartavya Bhawan-3, which now accommodates the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Personnel. At the inauguration, the Prime Minister highlighted the limitations of the colonial-era buildings. The new PMO may also be renamed, potentially reflecting a spirit of ‘service,’ as the Prime Minister has previously emphasized the importance of the PMO serving the people. The North and South Blocks, the central administrative hubs for eight decades, will be transformed into a public museum, named the Yuge Yugen Bharat Museum. An agreement has been signed between the National Museum and France Museums Development for its development. The museum aims to celebrate India’s cultural heritage and showcase its glorious past, present, and future.
