Punjab’s security apparatus scored a decisive victory against terrorism as Hoshiarpur Police, in collaboration with Jalandhar’s Counter Intelligence wing, neutralized a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terror cell. The arrests occurred on the eve of Republic Day, preventing what could have been a devastating strike.
Four individuals from Rahon in SBS Nagar—Diljot Singh, Harman Singh (aka Harry/Hari), Ajay (aka Mehra), and Arshdeep Singh (aka Arsh Kandhola)—were taken into custody. A thorough search yielded a 2.5 kg RDX-laden IED capable of massive destruction, alongside two loaded pistols.
DGP Gaurav Yadav briefed the media, revealing that US-based BKI commanders were remotely directing the group. Intelligence inputs suggested the explosive was primed for use in high-profile Republic Day gatherings. ‘Our teams acted swiftly on credible tips,’ the DGP noted, assuring the public of ongoing probes to dismantle the entire network.
SSP Sandeep Malik elaborated on the syndicate’s role in smuggling arms from border districts like Ferozepur and Amritsar, facilitated by ISI agents. The operation was intelligence-driven, highlighting inter-district coordination.
Legal action has been initiated under BNS Sections 113(1) and 113(3), Arms Act provisions, and Explosives Act at Garhshankar station. As Punjab braces for celebrations, this bust serves as a stark reminder of persistent threats from across the border, with police vowing zero tolerance.
