During the Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4), ISRO astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, currently on the International Space Station (ISS), performed scientific experiments focused on muscle health, digestion in space, and astronaut well-being. Shukla, working in the Kibo laboratory’s Life Sciences Glovebox, studied muscle stem cells in microgravity and recorded an educational video for Indian students explaining how the human digestive system adapts in space. The Myogenesis experiment, conducted by ISRO, investigates muscle cell regeneration in space, as astronauts experience muscle loss during extended missions due to microgravity. The research aims to develop treatments for muscle-related issues on Earth and improve astronaut health during long-duration spaceflights. The Ax-4 mission, which includes other crew members such as Peggy Whitson, Tibor Kapu, and Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski, also involves experiments on blood pressure, balance, vision, and brain-computer interfaces. The mission, running alongside the ISS’s Expedition 73, focuses on privately funded science and research related to human health and biology in space.
