Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service is preparing to launch operations in India within the next two months, following the acquisition of a license. Starlink is the third company to receive such authorization from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Eutelsat’s OneWeb and Reliance Jio have previously been approved for operations in the country. Starlink intends to offer a free one-month trial with the purchase of the device, prior to the commencement of subscriptions. The company’s pricing strategy includes a satellite dish device priced around ₹33,000, with an anticipated monthly charge of ₹3,000 for an unlimited data plan. This service aims to provide high-speed internet to remote and underserved regions where traditional broadband infrastructure is lacking. Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellite network is designed to deliver internet access to these areas. The pricing in India is expected to be consistent with that of neighboring countries, where the device costs approximately ₹33,000. Starlink currently operates in over 100 countries, offering both residential and roaming services, with options like Residential Lite and Residential plans to cater to different user needs. Earlier this year, Starlink established agreements with Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, two of India’s leading telecom providers.
