A potent weather system brewing in the southwest Bay of Bengal is set to unleash heavy rains on nine Tamil Nadu districts for the next 48 hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Chennai has flagged Chengalpattu, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Salem, and Namakkal for very heavy precipitation, with Kudalore, Thanjavur, and Ramanathapuram also in the line of fire.

Thunderstorms laced with lightning could spark flash floods and road blockages, particularly in lowlands. Officials are sounding the alarm for farmers and residents in at-risk zones to secure livelihoods and property, heeding all official guidance without delay.

Chennai might dodge the worst, settling for scattered light rains amid thunder. Statewide, Monday brings more drizzle, tapering off inland. Nighttime warmth surges with minimums climbing 3°C over average, fog-free skies notwithstanding.

Rough conditions in the Bay keep fishermen on edge; daily weather checks are non-negotiable. As Tamil Nadu navigates this deluge, proactive measures from disruption-prone areas will be key to minimizing impacts. The IMD’s forecast serves as a critical heads-up in an era of unpredictable monsoons.
