Security forces have successfully neutralized Madvi Hidma, a highly sought-after Maoist commander, in a significant operation near the Chhattisgarh-Andhra Pradesh border. Hidma, also recognized as Hidmalu and Santosh, was a pivotal figure within the CPI (Maoist) for nearly two decades, commanding the group’s most lethal strike unit. Officials are hailing his elimination as a major setback for the insurgency, potentially marking a turning point in the protracted conflict. Hidma, a native of Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, rose through the ranks due to his extensive knowledge of the region’s dense forests and his operational acumen. He was instrumental in orchestrating numerous deadly attacks, including the 2010 Dantewada massacre of 76 CRPF personnel, the 2013 Darbha valley ambush that decimated Chhattisgarh’s political leadership, and several Sukma and Bijapur ambushes resulting in significant casualties. His death creates a substantial leadership vacuum in South Bastar, expected to cripple the Maoist military structure and operations. This success is part of a broader counter-insurgency strategy, with authorities urging remaining cadres to surrender and warning of continued intensified operations against other senior leaders.
