A devastating incident in the Duddhi area of Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh, resulted in the death of an 18-month-old girl. The child, the daughter of a chaat vendor, sustained fatal burn injuries after accidentally falling into a large vessel containing boiling ‘chhole’ (chickpeas) at her home on Saturday night. The incident mirrors a similar tragedy from two years prior, when the girl’s elder sister died after falling into a pot of boiling ‘dal’. Police investigations revealed the incident to be accidental. The girl’s father, Shailendra, reported that his wife was preparing ‘golgappa’ ingredients and had briefly stepped away. During this time, the young girl, Priya, fell into the boiling vessel. The mother immediately pulled her out and rushed her to a local hospital. Due to the severity of her condition, she was later transferred to the district hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday.
