Tensions are simmering in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha after two complaints targeting AAP MLAs were forwarded to the special Privilege Committee. This procedural step highlights the fragile balance of power in the capital’s legislature.

The complaints were tabled by opposition leaders, accusing the AAP members of actions that allegedly infringe on the house’s privileges. Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta confirmed the transfer, emphasizing the need for an impartial probe to uphold parliamentary standards.

One complaint reportedly stems from disruptive behavior during debates, while the other concerns alleged disrespectful remarks against fellow members. The Privilege Committee will scrutinize evidence, hear from involved parties, and propose measures if violations are confirmed.

AAP, which commands a supermajority, dismissed the move as politically motivated. ‘This is BJP’s ploy to derail our work,’ a senior party figure stated. Meanwhile, the BJP countered that privilege must be protected regardless of party lines.

This episode revives memories of past clashes, like the 2023 suspensions that sparked protests. With elections on the horizon, such incidents could influence public perception. The committee’s report, expected soon, might lead to hearings or penalties, keeping the assembly in the spotlight.

Ultimately, the outcome will test the assembly’s ability to self-regulate amid partisan pressures, offering insights into Delhi’s evolving political landscape.
