Security forces struck a decisive blow against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, eliminating two hardcore militants in the Basantgarh sector on Wednesday. This development marks a crucial phase in an ongoing gunfight that has gripped the region since Tuesday night.

According to official updates, the militants’ bodies are yet to be retrieved amid continuing firefights in the forested hills. The operation showcases the seamless integration of technology and tactical prowess, with drones playing a starring role in locating the terror hideout inside a cave.

Once the positions were confirmed, a multi-agency cordon was rapidly enforced, leaving no room for the terrorists to slip away. The forces’ measured response has prevented any collateral damage while maximizing pressure on the hiding militants.

With intelligence suggesting additional terrorists in the area, the operation proceeds with utmost caution. Civilians in surrounding hamlets have been urged to stay put, ensuring their safety as troops comb the terrain.

This encounter highlights the growing challenge of terrorist modules in Udhampur, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch, and Doda. It comes in the wake of directives from a January 8 security conclave led by Home Minister Amit Shah, who ordered the swift neutralization of cross-border infiltrators—predominantly Pakistani—and robust LoC monitoring.

Shah’s upcoming three-day tour from February 5 will include border inspections and a Jammu-based security huddle, signaling the Centre’s intensified focus. Forces affirm complete operational dominance, ready for any escalation.
