In a remarkable feat, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as India’s solar powerhouse, spearheading the PM Surya Ghar scheme with record-breaking numbers. The state accounts for over 10.94 lakh of the 58.36 lakh applications received nationally, underscoring its pivotal role in the clean energy drive.

Thanks to robust policies and collaborative efforts from UPNEDA and electricity distributors, 3,57,879 rooftop systems are now operational. This has propelled UP’s solar capacity to 1,227.05 MW, complemented by hefty subsidies: Rs 2,440.62 crore centrally and Rs 600 crore state-funded. These incentives have democratized solar energy, bridging urban-rural divides.

Households are reaping direct benefits—bills down 60-90%, with savings averaging Rs 1,500-3,000 monthly. Net metering ensures surplus electricity earns credits, amplifying returns. The systems generate over 50 lakh units of green power daily, fortifying grid reliability and curbing peak loads.

The green footprint is equally compelling: 13-15 lakh tons of CO2 averted yearly, diminishing coal dependency and air pollution. This aligns seamlessly with national net-zero goals by 2070. Future plans include UEI-linked digital ecosystems for seamless energy banking, smart meters, and integration with EVs, green loans, and carbon markets.

For Uttar Pradesh’s export-oriented industries, this solar surge bolsters resilience against global carbon regulations like CBAM, enhancing market edge in EU trade talks. From rooftops to renewable independence, UP’s journey exemplifies visionary governance and sustainable progress.
