The United States has officially approved a significant defense deal worth approximately $93 million to supply India with advanced weaponry, including Javelin anti-tank missiles and Excalibur tactical projectiles. This strategic move aims to bolster India’s defense capabilities and enhance regional security.

The State Department has given the green light for two separate packages. The first involves Javelin missile systems, estimated at $45.7 million, which includes rounds, a fly-to-buy missile, and Lightweight Command Launch Units. The second package, valued at $47.1 million, will provide India with 216 M982A1 Excalibur tactical projectiles and related equipment.

This proposed sale is designed to support U.S. foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening the strategic partnership with India. Officials emphasize that this enhances the security of a key defense partner crucial for maintaining stability, peace, and economic progress in the Indo-Pacific and South Asian regions.

The Javelin missile system is a highly effective, portable, fire-and-forget weapon capable of destroying armored vehicles and fortified positions with remarkable precision. The Excalibur projectile is a precision-guided munition known for its accuracy in tactical engagements.

This latest arms deal follows India’s ongoing efforts to modernize its military, including previous agreements to procure advanced missile systems to enhance its air defense capabilities.
