In a strong reaction to reports concerning the execution of Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya, who was convicted of murdering Yemeni businessman Talal Abdo Mahdi, his brother, Abdul Fattah Mahdi, has publicly criticized Muslim cleric Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar. Fattah disputed claims made by the cleric’s office about a possible postponement of Nimisha’s death sentence. He challenged the cleric to a live broadcast to verify the status of the execution. Fattah also stated that no agreements had been made with intermediaries. He reiterated his family’s demand for justice under Sharia law.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also issued a statement, denying reports that Nimisha Priya’s death penalty had been overturned. Indian officials confirmed that they had not received any official communication regarding such a decision.

Abdul Fattah Mahdi has requested Yemen’s Attorney General to immediately enforce the court’s ruling, underscoring his family’s consistent demand for qisas, which is a form of retributive justice under Islamic law. He questioned the source of information used by Kanthapuram’s office and demanded clarification on who they had contacted regarding the case. In his statements, he emphasized that the family has not consented to any agreements and that the execution should proceed as per the court’s verdict.
