Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a significant improvement in its power infrastructure, largely due to the proactive measures implemented by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has reported a substantial decrease in transformer damage, attributed to rigorous monitoring, strategic interventions, and a strict accountability framework. Data from April and May of 2025–26 reveals a marked decline in transformer failures, indicating a strengthening of the power distribution system and enhancements in maintenance protocols.

Specifically, the damage to power transformers has shown a remarkable reduction. Only 12 power transformers were damaged in April-May 2025–26, compared to 42 in the same period of 2024–25, 61 in 2023–24, and 90 in 2022–23—an impressive decrease of over 87% in just three years. The decline in general transformer damage is also substantial, with the number of failures dropping from 7,322 in April-May 2022–23 to 2,613 in 2025–26, a decrease of over 64%.

This positive transformation is a result of several key interventions. These include the installation of bell protection systems for power transformers and tailless and fuse units for distribution transformers. Furthermore, mechanical fault tracking systems and continuous monitoring have been implemented. Strict disciplinary action has been taken against officers responsible for repeated failures, emphasizing the government’s commitment to a reliable power supply. Chief Minister Adityanath has prioritized a 24/7 quality power supply, and under the leadership of Dr. Ashish Kumar Goyal, these directives are producing tangible results, benefiting the public throughout Uttar Pradesh.
