In a ceremonial event brimming with military precision, Additional Director General MV Pathak officially took the reins of the Indian Coast Guard’s Western Seaboard command in Mumbai on Monday. This transition arrives at a critical juncture for India’s maritime defense, reinforcing the nation’s vigilance over its western waters.

A veteran of the Indian Coast Guard since 1989, Pathak has commanded an array of vessels and excelled in high-stakes leadership roles. His portfolio includes stints as Chief of Staff, Commander for Kerala and Mahe regions, Principal Director of Administration in the capital, regional commands in Andaman & Nicobar and North East, and Deputy DG for Operations and Coastal Security in Delhi.

Fresh from his posting as Deputy DG at the Coast Guard Shipping Branch, Pathak brings a wealth of experience decorated by the PTM and TM awards for outstanding contributions.

Addressing the assembled ranks, the new commander emphasized his honor in steering the Western Seaboard. Topping his agenda is fortifying coastal defenses and maritime rescue capabilities through partnerships with governmental bodies. Echoing the motto ‘Vayam Rakshamah,’ he recommitted the force to countering smuggling, managing environmental hazards like oil spills, conducting life-saving rescues, and securing sea borders against all odds.

Experts hail this leadership change as a game-changer for western coastal security. The Mumbai-based headquarters will now benefit from Pathak’s strategic acumen, ensuring proactive measures against evolving maritime risks and upholding India’s sovereign interests in the Arabian Sea.
