In a boost to affordable rail travel, Indian Railways has shattered production records for general and non-AC coaches. The achievement underscores the organization’s commitment to serving the common man amid surging travel needs.

Factories across the nation, including Integral Coach Factory in Chennai and Modern Coach Factory in Raebareli, have ramped up operations dramatically. This fiscal year’s output marks a 30% increase over previous highs, with emphasis on durable, cost-effective designs suited for India’s diverse routes.

Railway Board Chairman highlighted the strategic importance: “These coaches are the backbone of our unreserved segment, catering to over 70% of daily passengers.” The production surge addresses feedback from commuters facing overcrowding in popular trains like the Mumbai Suburban and Howrah-Delhi lines.

Innovations introduced include lightweight aluminum alloys for better fuel efficiency and enhanced ventilation systems for non-AC comfort. Quality checks have been intensified, ensuring compliance with RDSO standards for crashworthiness and hygiene.

The ripple effects extend to the economy, creating thousands of jobs in steel fabrication, upholstery, and logistics sectors. Small-scale suppliers from Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu have benefited immensely from bulk orders.

With elections and festivals on the horizon, this timely production will alleviate capacity constraints. Future plans include integrating solar panels on coach roofs for auxiliary power, further modernizing the fleet.

Indian Railways’ record underscores its evolution from a colonial-era network to a modern powerhouse, prioritizing inclusivity and efficiency for every Indian traveler.
