Facing sharp criticism from the BJP and backlash online, the Congress on Tuesday night deleted its controversial “gayab” (missing) social media post targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The move came shortly after Modi chaired a high-level security meeting and reportedly gave the armed forces full operational freedom to respond to the Pahalgam terror attack.

Adding to the Congress’s embarrassment, the post was widely shared by Pakistani handles, including a former minister, prompting further criticism. Ironically, the episode came just a day after the party leadership had cautioned its own leaders against making controversial remarks on the Pahalgam incident and its aftermath.
