Harare witnessed cricketing magic as Afghanistan’s Faisal Shinwazai delivered a career-defining 163 in the Under-19 World Cup Super Sixes against Ireland. The stylish right-hander faced 142 balls, peppering the boundary with 18 fours and one massive six, becoming the highest-scoring Afghan in the tournament’s history.

Overtaking Karim Janat’s 156 from 2016, Shinwazai’s innings was a blend of grit and flair. Early trouble saw Afghanistan at 27/2 after losing Sadat and Ahmadzai cheaply. Shinwazai’s rescue act began with Niyazi, adding 75 crucial runs, before an explosive alliance with skipper Mahboob Khan yielded 188 runs, the backbone of the 315/7 total.

Khan’s 89* off 79 balls, laced with boundaries, ensured a commanding finish. Ireland’s response was led by Wilson and Riley’s three-wicket hauls each. On the all-time list, Chamuditha’s 192 reigns supreme, with Boyagoda and Mays at 191.

This performance underscores Afghanistan’s rising prowess in youth cricket. Shinwazai’s maturity under pressure signals a bright future, potentially propelling his team deeper into the competition. Fans worldwide are buzzing about this new Afghan gem.
