The Australia A team is currently touring India, engaging in a 3-match ODI series against India A. A concerning development emerged during the series as four Australian players fell ill in Kanpur. The players experienced sudden abdominal pain and symptoms of a serious infection. Australian bowler Henry Thornton was hospitalized. BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla commented on the situation.

The reports indicated that the Australian cricketers’ illnesses were linked to food consumed at their hotel, leading to food poisoning. Henry Thornton was under medical supervision for two days and has now recovered fully. The other players were also taken to the hospital and discharged after check-ups. The Australia A team is staying at the Landmark Hotel in Kanpur, where they were served meals. Consequently, the food department has taken action and collected food samples from the hotel.

BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla stated that the Landmark Hotel in Kanpur is a top-quality establishment. He suggested that if the food had been problematic, all players might have been affected, which wasn’t the case. He noted that all players were eating the same food, and it was possible that the affected players contracted the illness elsewhere. The hotel management, on the other hand, has suggested that the players’ health issues might be due to the changing weather rather than the food.

The India A vs. Australia A match series is currently tied at 1-1. Prior to this, the two teams played two unofficial test matches, in which the Indian team emerged victorious with a 1-0 series win.
