Australia asserted total dominance in the Under-19 World Cup, demolishing Sri Lanka by 9 wickets and locking in Group A’s top position for the Super-6 stage. The match at Namibia Cricket Ground highlighted Australia’s bowling prowess and clinical chasing.

Opting to bat after losing the toss, Sri Lanka imploded spectacularly. At 3/3 after barely getting started, brief resistance from captain Vimath Dinsara (7) and Kavija Gamage (10) couldn’t save them. Chamika Heenatigala’s 14 was the highest, as the innings crumbled to 58 all out in 18.5 overs.

Will Byrom starred with a devastating 5-wicket haul for 14 runs in 6.5 overs, supported by doubles from Charles Lachmund and KC Barton. Hayden Schiller chipped in with one scalp. This left Australia needing just 59 for victory.

Openers faltered slightly with Will Malajczuk out for 4 on the fifth ball, but Nitish Samuel and Steve Hogan steadied the ship. Their 58-run partnership, unbeaten, saw Australia home in 12 overs. Only Rasith Nimesaro troubled them with a wicket.

Building on earlier 8-wicket triumphs against Ireland and Japan, Australia now eyes the Super-6. Sri Lanka, despite prior massive wins, and Ireland qualify alongside. This result cements Australia’s status as Group A overlords, promising more fireworks in the tournament.
