Indian bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has voiced his support for Jasprit Bumrah’s approach to workload management, highlighting the significant physical and mental demands placed upon fast bowlers in all three formats of the game. Kumar’s comments come in response to criticism from various cricket analysts and former players who questioned Bumrah’s selective participation in the recent five-Test series in England.

It was pre-decided that Bumrah would play in only three of the five Tests, a fact emphasized by the chief selector before the series began. Despite this, he faced criticism for missing the final Test. India ultimately lost all three Tests in which he played.

In an interview, Bhuvneshwar Kumar argued that it is not realistic to expect Bumrah to play every match, given the toll fast bowlers endure. He stated that Bumrah’s experience and contribution in the three matches he played should be considered sufficient. He emphasized the importance of managing players’ workloads for longevity and acknowledged the pressure they face. Bumrah is expected to return to action in the Asia Cup T20, starting September 9th. His availability for the upcoming home Test series in the 2025-26 season is yet to be confirmed.
