In a match that promises to be etched in cricket history, 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi from Bihar delivered a masterclass innings in the Under-19 World Cup 2026 final. Facing England at Harare, India posted 411/9, largely thanks to Suryavanshi’s blistering 175 off 80 deliveries – a knock adorned with 15 boundaries and 15 maximums.
The innings began steadily after skipper Ayush Mhatre called correctly at the toss. An early setback saw Aaron George depart for 9 at 20/1. Enter Suryavanshi, who steadied the ship with Mhatre in a 142-run alliance off 90 balls, taking India to 162. Mhatre fell for 53, but Suryavanshi exploded alongside Vedant Trivedi for 89 runs in 39 balls.
Post Suryavanshi’s exit, the lower order fired. Vihaan Malhotra and Vedant crossed 300, followed by Abhijnan Kundu’s 40 and RS Ambrish’s 18. Finisher Kanisk Chauhan remained not out on 37 off 20, ensuring a challenging target.
Bowling honors for England went to James Minto (3/??), Morgan and Green (2 each). Back home, CM Nitish Kumar celebrated the feat on X, praising Suryavanshi’s dedication. ‘He’s become a new beacon for Indian cricket with his skill and effort. Wishing him laurels ahead,’ he wrote.
As India eyes the title, Suryavanshi’s knock symbolizes the rise of grassroots talent, inspiring a new generation in Bihar and beyond.
