In the ninth match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, Guyana Amazon Warriors achieved a resounding 83-run victory against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. A remarkable performance by a 46-year-old veteran player for Guyana played a pivotal role in his team’s triumph. The spinner dismantled half of the Falcons team in a mere 24 balls. Guyana Amazon Warriors’ captain, Imran Tahir, delivered an outstanding bowling performance, leaving the Falcons struggling.

In the match, Amazon Warriors elected to bat first, scoring 211 runs for the loss of three wickets in 20 overs. Shai Hope scored 82 runs off 54 balls, with six fours and five sixes, while veteran batsman Shimron Hetmyer remained unbeaten with 65 runs off just 26 balls. He smashed five fours and five sixes in his innings. Additionally, Romario Shepherd scored 25 runs not out in 8 balls, which included two fours and two sixes.

Chasing the target, the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons were bowled out for a mere 128 runs. Imran Tahir, the captain of the Amazon Warriors, exhibited lethal bowling, taking 5 wickets for 21 runs in 4 overs. He also bowled a maiden over in the match. Tahir dismissed Shakib Al Hasan, Imad Wasim, Usama Mir, Shammar Springer, and Obed McCoy. This marked his fourth 5-wicket haul in T20 cricket.

The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons’ batsmen displayed poor batting form in this contest. Karima Gore scored 31 runs for the team, while Bevon Jacobs managed 26 runs. Fabian Allen scored 22 runs. No other batsman could stay at the crease for long. Apart from Imran Tahir, Romario Shepherd and Dwaine Pretorius took two wickets each for Guyana. Gudakesh Motie took one wicket.

The Amazon Warriors have played two matches this season, winning both. Prior to this, they defeated St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots. With 4 points, the team holds the second position in the points table, while Antigua has 5 points and leads the table.
