Indian football fans may witness a historic moment this October as the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo could potentially visit India for the AFC Champions League Two (ACL2) 2025–26. His club, Al Nassr, is scheduled to play FC Goa on October 22nd in what is anticipated to be one of the most significant matches ever held in India. Al Nassr has included Ronaldo in their roster of 12 foreign players for the ACL2, alongside other international stars such as Sadio Mane, Joao Felix, and Kingsley Coman. However, Aymeric Laporte will not be participating, having returned to Spain to play with Athletic Club. FC Goa is grouped with Al Nassr, Al Zawraa (Iraq), and Istiklol (Tajikistan). Their group stage matches begin against Al Zawraa on September 17th in Fatorda, followed by a match against Istiklol on October 1st. The eagerly awaited game is the home match against Al Nassr on October 22nd. While Ronaldo is on the squad list, his travel to India remains uncertain. He has historically played few ACL2 matches away from home. Furthermore, Ronaldo recently committed to Al Nassr until 2027, ending speculations of a move to the MLS. This reaffirms his continued commitment to Saudi football’s international ambitions. FC Goa qualified for the ACL2 group stage after winning the Kalinga Super Cup, marking their return to continental competition after their inaugural appearance in the AFC Champions League in 2021. They secured their place by defeating Al Seeb (Oman) 2-1 in a thrilling match. With Mohun Bagan Super Giant also in the competition, and the potential presence of Ronaldo, this ACL2 season is shaping up to be a landmark event for Indian football.
