The Indian cricket sponsorship landscape is undergoing significant changes, with Dream11, a prominent fantasy sports platform, stepping away from its role as a major sponsor of Team India. This decision comes in the wake of the recently enacted ‘Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill 2025,’ which has dramatically altered the industry’s dynamics. The bill effectively prohibits real money gaming and associated advertising in India, severely impacting platforms like Dream11 that relied on these revenue streams. Dream11 had a three-year deal with the BCCI, commencing in 2023, valued at USD 44 million (Rs 358 crore), which was set to last until 2026. The BCCI is now actively seeking a new sponsor to fill the void left by Dream11, especially with the Asia Cup 2025 approaching. The shift in sponsorships is expected to cause a significant shake-up in sports marketing, potentially opening opportunities for traditional brands and global corporations.
