Andrew Flintoff has stepped down as the head coach of the Northern Superchargers after two seasons, citing a financial disagreement with the team’s new Indian owners, Sun Group. The former England all-rounder indicated that contract negotiations failed to meet his expectations, leading to his departure ahead of the 2026 season of The Hundred. Flintoff, who took on the coaching role in November 2023, his first senior position after a stint with England’s coaching staff, felt his contributions were not adequately valued by the new ownership. He also currently coaches the England Lions, managing their winter tour of Australia. The Superchargers showed progress under Flintoff, finishing fourth in 2024 and third in the league stage this year, though their tournament ended prematurely due to a washed-out Eliminator match. Flintoff expressed disappointment, stating he believed he was worth more than the offered compensation and was not encouraged by the ownership’s vision. Despite the club’s claim of offering a higher salary, Flintoff felt undervalued and has chosen to move on, remaining open to other coaching opportunities. Several franchises, including Manchester Originals and Trent Rockets, are reportedly considering him for their coaching roles in 2026.
