Gary Kirsten, the coach who guided India to their 2011 World Cup triumph, revealed his most cherished memory from his tenure wasn’t the trophy lift. In a conversation, the former Proteas legend shared a special moment from his time as India’s coach from 2008 to 2011. Kirsten surprisingly rated the partnership between VVS Laxman and Ishant Sharma in the 2010 Mohali Test during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, higher than India’s 2011 World Cup victory. He highlighted his satisfaction in helping Ishant Sharma improve his batting during that crucial match against Australia. Kirsten also praised Gautam Gambhir for his coaching capabilities, mentioning India’s performance in the recent Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The Mohali Test saw India achieving a dramatic one-wicket victory over Australia, with a crucial partnership between Laxman and Sharma turning the game. Laxman, despite a back injury, and Ishant’s resilience were key to India’s win.
