Harendra Singh has stepped down from his position as the chief coach of the Indian women’s national hockey team, citing personal reasons. Hockey India officially announced the development on Monday. Singh expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, calling it a career highlight and a privilege to coach the team. He stated that while personal circumstances necessitate his departure, his support for the team’s continued success remains unwavering. He also conveyed his commitment to supporting Hockey India’s vision for elevating Indian hockey. Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey acknowledged Singh’s contributions and experience, praising his dedication to the sport. He assured that a replacement would be announced soon and wished Singh well. Despite the official statement citing personal reasons, unconfirmed reports suggest underlying issues may have contributed to his decision. The team’s performance had seen a decline recently, including relegation from the FIH Pro League and a drop in world rankings. There are also allegations of player complaints to the Sports Ministry regarding Singh’s alleged misconduct, prompting a response from Hockey India. Although no concrete evidence was found, Singh appears to have taken moral responsibility for the situation.
