Simon Harmer has etched his name in South African cricket history, achieving a remarkable feat for a Proteas bowler in India. Following a dominant 2-0 series victory over the hosts, Harmer was instrumental in the final massive 408-run triumph in Guwahati. His exceptional performance saw him claim a six-wicket haul on the final day, bringing his series total to an outstanding 17 wickets.

This tally surpasses the long-standing record of 15 wickets held by pace legend Dale Steyn, set during the 2008 tour. Harmer’s 17 wickets in the series are now the most by any South African bowler in a Test series played in India. His success also sees him overtake Steyn’s overall Test wicket count in India.

Harmer’s mastery of the subcontinent conditions was evident throughout the series, baffling Indian batsmen with his spin, bounce, and strategic variations. The 36-year-old’s experience proved invaluable as he guided South Africa to their first series win in India in 25 years. This remarkable achievement marks a significant moment for the Proteas, while the Indian team faces a period of introspection after consecutive home series whitewashes.
