Over a month after clinching the Asia Cup 2025 title, the Indian cricket team has yet to receive the coveted trophy. Despite a dominant performance, including victories against Pakistan, the silverware remains in the custody of Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia expressed dissatisfaction with the prolonged delay, confirming that official letters were sent to Naqvi ten days ago with no resolution.
Following their triumph in the final, the Indian squad notably declined to accept the trophy directly from Naqvi, who also chairs the Pakistan Cricket Board. This led to the team returning without the trophy, with Naqvi suggesting it could be collected from the ACC office in Dubai. However, he expressed a desire to personally present it.
Saikia indicated that the BCCI anticipates the trophy’s arrival in Mumbai shortly, possibly within a day or two. The board is prepared to escalate the issue to the International Cricket Council (ICC) if the trophy isn’t returned promptly. The matter is slated to be discussed at the upcoming ICC quarterly meeting in Dubai on November 4. Saikia assured the public that the trophy will eventually return to India, though a definitive timeline is yet to be established. The BCCI official emphasized that all records confirm India’s championship win, with only the physical trophy outstanding.
